vintage, shoes, and kitty cats

  • bow necklace - claires

  • vintage 80s dress - bows & arrows

  • black tights - hot topic (need new ones, those have tons of holes)

  • lace up heels - thrift store

Hello lovelies! Last Saturday, I went thrift shopping and bought a few lovely items of clothing. The dress and shoes pictured above are a couple of sample and the rest will be featured in upcoming posts. On Sunday after church, my parents and I drove down to Antioch. On the way home, we stopped on the Delta for ice cream. We walked through a very small portion of the area that seems to quickly becoming yet another Delta ghost town. We also walked down to the docks which was quite a precarious walk considering the large amount of stairs and the fact that I was wearing heels. I've never seen so many feral cats in one place! They were adorable, albeit scrawny and smelly. I wanted to just take them all home with me! Speaking of which, we took in a stray kitten that we found in our neighborhood. I had to beg my dad though because he absolutely hates cats and was very adamant that we could not keep the poor dear. I decided to name her Olive. She's so tiny and exactly the kind of cat I wanted -- all black, very playful, and a bit feisty.

  • Sorry for the horrible photo editing, but I couldn't seem to snap a decent photo of her without holding her and I was not interested in showing myself sans makeup with messy hair. Isn't she just too freakin' cute!? But enough of my babbling on before I start to sound like one of the mothers on Toddlers & Tiaras (SUCH a guilty pleasure!), let me get to the point of this whole thing. I bought that lovely dress up there at Bows & Arrows, a vintage shop in midtown Sacramento. If you're ever in the Sacramento area you should definitely stop by there. Their prices are very reasonable and their clothes are divine and obviously chosen with the utmost care. I always find an abundance of XS and even XXS tees and dresses and while that frustrates me to no end, I'm sure it would be a miracle for any girls who are so tiny that they find it hard to find clothes that fit. I must say that vintage shopping with my mom was really a greater experience than I imagined. My mom was born in 1953, so as we sifted through the racks of clothes, she made many comments such as, "I used to have something very similar to this" or "This is just like looking through my old closet". It made me feel like I could relate to my mom and vice-versa, and that she liked something that I liked, both of which are not such common feelings. Afterwards, we also drove down to Thunderhorse Vintage. I didn't buy anything but they had a great selection of boots, 80s nostalgia, and vintage formal wear. It reminds me of the kind of store a rock star would shop at. The guy who works there is so nice. He doesn't say much but he'll smile at you every time you even glance at him. :) Here's a picture of one of their past window displays which I totally stole off of their myspace, hehe.

I'm real tempted to say what else I bought at the smaller, local, non-vintage thrift stores but I'll save those for a later date. I am madly in love with the dress I bought and I'm hoping to find more like it the next time I go there. I also can't believe I found those heels at the thrift store for only 9 bucks! I'm usually not big on heels but I was actually just telling my mom the other day that I wanted to buy some lace-up heels and only a couple days later I spotted those gorgeous things, and in perfect condition. Now all I need are a pair of Mary Janes, a pair of white patent flats and/or heels and a pair of black and white Creepers and I'll be all set in the shoe department. Does anyone else just love Creepers? I'm a big fan of these ones although I really don't know what I would wear them with. Next to those are a close-up of my new heels. It's not a very good picture though because it was dark outside.

I feel like I have a ton more to say but I've written more than enough already. I love having this blog but the lack of organization and direction is causing me to be less than satisfied with it.
Please, if anyone could give me some guidance on what kinds of things to write about and how to keep posts from being bland or rambling, I would appreciate it beyond words.

Hello dears and welcome to Schizophrenic Style! Actually, I feel more as though I should be accepting welcome rather than giving it, considering the fact that I'm a newcomer in this vast and lovely world of fashion blogging which that so many others before me are already a part of. Now, since I'm pretty sure someone is going to ask, allow me to explain this name. I am a person who is inspired by nearly everything I see whether it be a movie or a person or just a building. And generally, the things I get inspired by and interested in always end up being incorporated into my wardrobe. Because I'm always pulling inspiration from a new source, my style is constantly changing and evolving. Often, two or three drastically different themes will sometimes mix and meld into one outfit. I'll stay with one theme for weeks then suddenly switch to something else and then back again. It's as though my style has multiple personalities, hence the name "Schizophrenic Style" (man, I have to think about how to spell that every time!)

I wore the outfit above to church last Sunday. I always love to wear dresses and tights to church. It's kind of an updated version of 1950s and 60s church attire. In my mind, it reminds me of O Brother, Where Art Thou and Walk The Line, two wonderfully entertainig movies. I only wish I had more vintage or vintage-inspired dresses to fit that look better. I considered wearing a white Marilyn Monroe-esque sundress with my tights to make it just a tad more retro but it was in the laundry, so that powder blue dress had to do. I was really feeling the Swiss maiden sort of corset lace-up on the bust and I felt like wearing a splash of color for a change. You can't tell, but my tights are an eggplant purple rather than black. I was wearing black ones underneath though because the purple ones are sheer and I prefer opaque tights. I ripped a run in them that morning! Sucks. I knew it was looking a little more hippie chick than classic preacher's daughter so I tried to class it up with a cardigan and a 1940s-inspired ponytail complete with a messy attempt at a victory roll courtesy of the lovely Aya of Strawberry Koi Vintage (who, might I add, is much more skilled at victory rolls than I am). My friend's mom said I looked very classic so I suppose it worked out alright. Definitely thinking I'm gonna have to scour this cookie-cutter suburban wasteland I live in for more interesting places for photoshoots than my backyard...
